At Job Corps, we will help you unlock your full potential. Not only do we offer hands-on career training, but we also offer classes in academics, like reading and math.

High School Diploma or the equivalent

At no cost to you or your family, Job Corps provides any materials and supplies (i.e., books, workbooks, testing materials, specialized safety equipment) you’ll need to complete your academic and career training programs.

English Language Learning (ELL) Program

Enroll in our English Language Learning (ELL) program and become more confident in your English speaking and writing abilities. Reasonable accommodations to support ELL are available.

Tutoring and Academic Support

If you are interested in getting into a tutoring program once enrolled, you may contact your instructors or the Academic Manager. Tutoring is available in academics, where students are tutored by instructors or by fellow students (Peer Student Tutors).

Advanced Career Training

Keep learning and training. Our Advanced Career Training (ACT) is an advanced college-level program. Students in ACT get to continue living on campus while taking courses for a college degree. To qualify for the ACT program, you must have:

  • A high school diploma or the equivalent
  • Completed at least one level of Job Corps career technical training
  • Recommendations from career technical training instructors and center staff
  • No major disciplinary issues within 60 days of applying
  • Above-average evaluation scores

Meet the staff

Marcia Hill-Ross
Marcia Hill-Ross serves as the academic manager and has worked with Dayton Job Corps Center for over 20 years. Beginning as a substitute instructor, she has served in many capacities, including Business Information Technology instructor, GED Language Arts instructor, Social Studies and Science instructor, and lead High School Diploma instructor. Marcia enjoys working with students and receives great satisfaction from knowing that she plays a part in their success.
Angela Sturckler
Angela Sturckler has served as the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Math instructor at Dayton Job Corps Center since 2013. She earned a master’s degree in education from Wright State University and has been teaching in the Dayton area since 2006, including Huber Heights City Schools, Fairborn City Schools, Dayton Leadership Academy and YouthWorks.
Najlaa Khudher
Najlaa Khudher has served as a full time High School Diploma instructor at Dayton Job Corps Center since December 2021. She has a bachelor’s degree in statistics and economics and a master’s degree in applied mathematics. Currently, Najlaa is a Ph.D. student in engineering electro optics and photonics at the University of Dayton and has been teaching as a part-time math professor at Wilberforce University since February 2021.
Melissa Dawson
Melissa Dawson works with Dayton Job Corps Center as the Test of Adult Basic Education coordinator. She previously worked in the airline industry for 23 years, including two years as a training scheduler, three years as a crew scheduler and 18 years as a flight attendant. Melissa enjoys working with students and being able to help them adapt to their new environment and schedules.
Ms. Woehl
Ms. Woehl is a full-time Career Preparation instructor at Dayton Job Corps Center. She earned an Associate of Applied Science degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in educational studies. Teaching at many different educational levels, she brings valuable experience to the Career Prep classroom.
Shay Raymond
Shay Raymond , Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Reading Instructor, graduated from Miami University of Ohio and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in creative writing. Shay has nearly a decade of teaching experience from kindergarten to college and enjoys mentoring and providing a safe space for LGBTQ+ students. Shay loves to write poetry and cuddle with her little Chiweenie while watching ’80s horror movies.
Clementine Swift
Clementine Swift , On-Call Substitute instructor, previously worked as the Test of Adult Basic Education Reading instructor at Dayton Job Corps Center. She earned a degree in secondary education from Wright State University, then taught language arts to Dayton Public Schools middle and high school students for several years.
Johniece Hawkins
Johniece Hawkins , MyPACE coordinator at Dayton Job Corps Center, has experience as a State Tested Nursing Aide preceptor, residential advisor and career preparation specialist. She enjoys assisting students with developing individualized career plans centered around their life goals, then fostering progress throughout the program to ensure they are on pathways to career excellence.
